Curbed asked New Yorkers about their dream life then did math to figure out how much it costs.
Here's one:
- lady wants 3 kids, Brooklyn 4 bedroom brownstone
- brownstone is cheap for area $4.5m, Brooklyn heights
- private schools ($50k/year per kid)
- a used Subaru (ha!)
With maintenance, down payment, utilities...
Annual cost: $712,329 a year
This is after a onetime payment of $1,252,401.
So you'll need to earn $1.5m/year to cover your monthly nut (taxes are about 50%).
Moral of the story: start making some money!
